Congressman Donald Norcross Announces Winners of 2016 Congressional Art Competition

Washington, DC, NJ-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for New Jersey’s First Congressional District. The winning entry is an acrylic painting entitled “The Price of Freedom,” submitted by Eastern Regional High School 9th grader Angelina Le.

The painting depicts a military veteran in a wheelchair accompanied by two small children along the banks of the Delaware River in Camden, with the Battleship New Jersey prominently featured.

“I congratulate Angelina for effectively capturing the sacrifices of our military heroes, and how their selfless actions have ensured a better future for generations to come,” said Rep. Norcross. Angelina Le will be honored at an upcoming ceremony in Washington, DC and her winning entry will hang at the U.S. Capitol for one year. A panel of judges selected a second place entry entitled “Floyd Norman,” by Tatiana Ramos, an 11th grader from The Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy in Camden.

The pencil portrait depicts Floyd Norman, the first African American animator hired by Walt Disney.

Tatiana’s artwork will hang in Rep. Norcross’ Washington, DC office for one year. A third place entry entitled “Touch the Wave” is the work of Eastern Regional High School 9th grader, Joyce Fang.

The mixed media collage will hang in Rep. Norcross’ District Office in Cherry Hill for one year.

There were dozens of art entries from across New Jersey’s First Congressional District. All entrants will be honored by Rep. Norcross with an official Congressional certificate.

“South Jersey should be proud of these student-artists! Everyone who entered is a winner and the level of talent is something that has really left an impression on me,” said Rep. Norcross.

The artwork is on display now through May 20, 2016 inside the art gallery located inside the College Center on the campus of Rowan College at Gloucester County.

Congressman Donald Norcross is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Budget Committee, and serves as Assistant Whip in the 114th Congress.
