Kenneth J. Mowerson III Arrested On Multiple Charges of Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. GREWAL announced the arrest of KENNETH J. MOWERSON III of 155 Parmalee Avenue, Hawthorne, New Jersey (DOB: 12/30/1961) on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Witness Tampering.

The arrest came about as the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Special Victims Unit, under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO, the Hawthorne Police Department, under the direction of Chief Richard MCAULIFFE, and the Mahwah Police Department, under the direction of Chief James BATELLI.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, the Hawthorne Police Department received a report of the sexual assault of a 11-year-old juvenile female. It was determined by the Hawthorne Police Department that the assaults occurred within the jurisdiction of the Mahwah Police Department. The Mahwah Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit were notified and commenced a joint investigation.

The ensuing investigation revealed that the sexual assaults took place from May 2013 to June 2015 when the victim was between the ages of 8-10. As a result, Kenneth J. MOWERSON III was charged on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 with Aggravated Sexual Assault (2C:14-2A(1)), a 1st degree crime; Sexual Assault (2C:14-2B), a 2nd degree crime; Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2C:24-4A), a 2nd degree crime; and Witness Tampering (2C:28-5A(2)), a 3rd degree crime.

The Honorable Frances A. McGrogan, J.S.C. of Bergen County set no bail. Conditions included no contact with the victim, surrender of his passport, and enrollment into the Sheriff’s Bail Enrichment Program.

Initial attempts to locate Kenneth J. MOWERSON III were unsuccessful.

On Thursday, April 28, 2016, at approximately 5:10 p.m., MOWERSON was observed in Allendale by an off-duty Saddle River Police Officer. Shortly thereafter, he was placed under arrest for the aforementioned criminal charges and remanded to the Bergen County Jail.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Hawthorne Police Department, the Mahwah Police Department, the Saddle River Police Department, and the Allendale Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
