Rep. Norcross Statement on One-Year Anniversary of Ruling Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage in the United States

On Jun 24, 2016, Washington, DC-U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01), a member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, released the following statement in advance of Sunday’s one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriage:

“This Sunday, we join with our family, friends and neighbors in the LGBT community celebrating a milestone that marks a significant moment in equality and history".

"On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a right long-denied to LGBT couples--the right to legally marry. Since this injustice has been addressed and a discriminatory barrier to rights has been removed, many couples have made official their commitment to one another. During this last weekend of LGBT Pride Month, we should all be proud of this achievement, and recommit to ending discrimination in all forms and working to achieve full equality under the law for all.”

As part of his ongoing commitment to LGBT rights, on Thursday, June 22, 2016, Rep. Norcross welcomed Christian Fuscarino of Garden State Equality as well as other LGBT leaders from across the country to a roundtable discussion at the U.S. Capitol on issues affecting the nation’s LGBT community.
