Gilberto Ruiz of New York City Charged With Drug Possession with Intent to Distribute

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of GILBERTO RUIZ (DOB: 12/03/1982) of 569 184th Street, New York, New York on a drug possession charge.

This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Narcotic Task Force under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit under the direction of Sheriff Michael SAUDINO, the Dumont Police Department under the direction of Chief Joseph L. FAULBORN Jr., the Cresskill Police Department under the direction of Chief Edward J. WRIXON, the Tenafly Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert CHAMBERLAIN, and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Lawrence SUFFERN.

Pursuant to this investigation, it was determined that controlled dangerous substances, namely Cocaine, were being distributed from a sneaker and apparel store in Englewood, New Jersey.

In addition, police personnel located and seized approximately one (1) ounce of suspected cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and empty unused plastic baggies commonly utilized to weigh and package narcotics for distribution, and two thousand two hundred eighty three dollars ($2,283.00) in U.S. currency.

As a result of the investigation, Gilberto RUIZ was charged with one (1) count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, in a Quantity Greater than One-Half (1/2) Ounce but Less than Five (5) Ounces, a second degree crime.

The Honorable Louis J. Dinice, J.M.C., set bail for Gilberto RUIZ at $75,000.00 with no ten percent (10%) cash option. He was subsequently remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

Acting Prosecutor Grewal states that this charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, the Cresskill Police Department, the Tenafly Police Department, the Dumont Police Department, and the Englewood Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
