Rep. Pascrell Supports Military Assistance Agreement Between U.S. & Israel
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) voted for passage of House Resolution 729, a bill expressing support for the finalization of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States and Israel. Rep. Pascrell was cosponsor of the resolution. The House voted on this resolution the same day the Obama Administration announced a 10-year $38 billion security assistance package with Israel.
This MOU is the single largest pledge of bilateral military assistance in U.S. history.
The new MOU is expected to be signed today at a ceremony at the Department of State in the Treaty Room at 2:00 pm.
"As a proud cosponsor and supporter of H.Res. 729, which expresses support for the finalization of a new and robust Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel, I am pleased to hear the United States will provide Israel with the largest pledge of military assistance the U.S. has ever granted," said Rep. Pascrell, a consistent supporter of the military aid package to Israel.
"The $38 billion package is a 10-year agreement that constitutes a significant increase in support for Israel to upgrade its aircraft fleet, substantially enhance the mobility of its ground forces and continue to strengthen its missile defense capabilities. Yesterday, the House passed H.Res. 729 by a vote of 405-4. Now, I look forward to seeing the new Memorandum of Understanding signed so the Congress can start work on providing the funds to help maintain Israel’s qualitative military edge in the region."
