The arrest came about as the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO and the Paramus Police Department under the direction of Chief Kenneth R. On Friday, April 29, 2016, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victim’s Unit and the Paramus Police Department arrested Fernando SALINAS after learning that he engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with two juvenile victims, a five (5) year-old male and a fifteen (15) year-old male.

The fifteen (15) year old male reported that the inappropriate sexual activity took place when he was six (6) or seven (7) years old. The five (5) year-old victim disclosed the inappropriate sexual activity to his father, who contacted the Paramus Police Department, who then notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Arrangements were made for the victims to be interviewed by Detectives from the Special Victims Unit. During those interviews, the victims provided specific details regarding what had occurred with Mr. SALINAS. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of Mr. SALINAS.

Fernando SALINAS was charged with two (2) counts of Sexual Assault and two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Bail for Mr. SALINAS set by the Honorable Frances A. McGrogan, J.S.C. in the amount of $200.000 with no 10% option. Additional restrictions of bail were that Mr. SALINAS could not have contact with the victims and had to surrender his passport.  Mr. SALINAS was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Paramus Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
