Javier Montecinos of Newark Charged With Sex Assault and Child Endangerment

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of 48-year-old JAVIER MONTECINOS of 220 Walnut Street, Newark, New Jersey on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Chief Robert ANZILOTTI and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge, Captain Francesco AQUILA.

On Friday, July 13, 2016, the Hackensack Police Department was contacted by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and advised that a juvenile female disclosed that she was touched inappropriately by Javier MONTECINOS.

The Hackensack Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and a joint investigation ensued.

As a result of interviews and the investigation, Javier MONTECINOS was charged with one (1) count of Aggravated Sexual Assault, 2C:14-2A(1), a 1st degree crime, one (1) count of Sexual Assault by Contact, 2C:14-2b, a 2nd degree crime and one (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 2C:24-4a, a 2nd degree crime.

Initial attempts to locate MONTECINOS were unsuccessful.

On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, MONTECINOS surrendered himself to the Hackensack Police Department.

The Honorable Susan J. Steele, P.J.Cr. set bail at $150,000.00 with no ten percent option. As conditions of bail, Javier MONTECINOS is to have no contact with the victim and must surrender his passport. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail and is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Hackensack Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
