Shara Goldstein of River Edge Charged With Child Abuse and Child Endangerment

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of SHARA R. GOLDSTEIN of 738 Bogert Road, River Edge, New Jersey (DOB:: 8/16/1988) on charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Child Abuse. The arrest is the result of joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO and the Woodcliff Lake Police Department under the direction of Chief Anthony JANNICELLI.

On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, the Woodcliff Lake Police Department learned that in January 2016, the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit was contacted regarding an allegation of children being abused by one of the teachers at KinderCare Learning Center located at 450 Chestnut Ridge Road in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.

An investigation was initiated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Woodcliff Lake Police Department. During that investigation, it was revealed that Shara R. GOLDSTEIN, a teacher at KinderCare, was observed on numerous occasions during December 2015 mistreating several students, all under the age of two years, while they were in her care.

The mistreatment included incidents of Shara R. GOLDSTEIN pushing children to the floor, throwing objects at children and dropping children.

There were four (4) children identified as victims of mistreatment by Shara R. GOLDSTEIN.

Based on the investigation, on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Shara R. GOLDSTIEN was arrested and charged with one (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and three (3) counts of Child Abuse.  The Honorable Gary N. Wilcox, J.S.C. set bail at $50,000.00, no 10% percent option. Additionally, Ms. GOLDSTEIN is not to have contact with any of the victims or with any child under the age of five (5) as a condition of bail.

Shara R. GOLDSTEIN was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. She is scheduled to make her first appearance before Judge Harry D. Norton, Jr., J.M.C. of the Pascack Joint Municipal Court.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Woodcliff Lake Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
